Eddie Goggins is a dentist from Cabinteely in Dublin and he is flying a group-owned RV7 recently built by the talented engineer Andrew Butler. The aircraft is based on a farm near Dunshaughlin, Co Meath. It has been registered as EI-EEO. (EI-EIO was already taken!) Andrew opted for a more powerful 180hp engine with a variable pitch propeller and full inverted fuel and oil systems. Thus Eddie has the extra power needed to keep formation as well as being able to demonstrate sustained inverted flight maneuvers. This RV7 has been sponsored by Rathbeggan Lakes Fun Park in Dunshaughlin.
Eddie Goggins is flying as the wing man. At a young age Eddie went to an airshow where he first saw an airplane flying upside down. From that day on, he dreamed about doing the same thing himself. He had his first flying lesson at age 18 but it took him 6 years to reach the minimum flying time to apply for his private pilots licence. He added a commercial licence and an instructors rating and since then he has accumulated 2500 hours in airplanes and helicopters.
Eddies main love however has always been aerobatics. He was drawn to the competitive world and since 2004 he has been a 5 time Irish aerobatic champion and has competed in several European countries and he won a Bronze medal for Ireland at the 2008 World Advanced Championships in the USA. He is one of the few aerobatic instructors in Ireland.
